The previously convicted criminal could now face the death penalty after a two-year-old boy died in his care.

Dunn told officers he had been babysitting the children when he called 911 himself on Thursday morning to report that the two-year-old boy was not breathing, according to an affidavit supporting the charges.

The 36-year-old admitted to punching the children in the back, sides and chest on Wednesday night while they were allegedly playing a 'game'.

He said 'he was hitting them harder than he should have,' according to court documents.

The court documents also revealed that Dunn reported pinching the young children and pushing them into a door frame.

He said he gave both of the twins Tylenol as well as giving the little boy cough medicine and the little girl children's sleep aid.

The boy was reportedly wheezing on Friday morning - so Dunn gave him more cough medicine.

Between 8:30 am and 9 am the boy stopped breathing, Dunn allegedly told officers.

Both children had bruising all over their bodies and the girl was taken to the hospital to be treated for a brain bleed, court records said.

Dunn was held without bail and is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Dec. 26.

He was sentenced in May 2017 to up to 15 years in prison for breaking the arm of a child  he was looking after in 2016.

He was released from prison in April 2019 and was on parole until December 2021, Utah Department of Corrections officials said.
