Jim Carrey Wants To Work With Marvel Studios

You might have heard of Jim Carrey’s recent peculiar public behavior, such as his trip to Fashion Week in New York at which he claimed the event was “the most meaningless thing that I could come to” and his frequent statements that “Jim Carrey doesn’t exist.” While it seems the actor is, let’s say, following his own path right now, it turns out he might be open to making another big budget blockbuster in the future.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the eccentric star while he was attending the Toronto International Film Festival to promote his new short, Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond – The Story of Jim Carrey & Andy Kaufman Featuring a Very Special Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton. The talk gravitated towards the issue of sequels and Carrey’s distaste for movies that primarily exist, as the actor puts it, “for the function of commerce.” However, completely unprompted, he then suggested that he would be interested in playing a Marvel superhero:

“If Marvel wants me to… Neurotic Man! Man That Doesn’t Exist!”

Of course, Carrey is no stranger to comic book movies. In fact, if he did sign up for a Marvel film, it would be his fourth superhero-related project. One of his most famous roles was as the green-faced protagonist of 1994’s The Mask, which is actually a loose adaptation of a series from Dark Horse Comics. He then played the Riddler opposite Val Kilmer’s Dark Knight in 1995’s Batman Forever, before starring as Colonel Stars and Stripes in 2013’s Kick-Ass 2, which is based off a comic from Icon – an imprint of Marvel Comics.

As for his connection to the MCU, Jim Carrey was allegedly an early choice to play Loki the God of Mischief in 2011’s Thor – so a Marvel role for the comedy star isn’t totally out of the question. It just depends on whether studio chief Kevin Feige is looking for a superhero whose main power is questioning his own existence.
