Iggy Pop Dated A 13-Year-Old Following His First Wifes Departure

Iggy Pop is currently married to Nina Alu, his third wife. Since 2008, he has been married to her. However, he had a crazy life and an even wilder dating history before this. Pop had been married and divorced twice before meeting Alu. One of these unions lasted only a few weeks. His first marriage to Wendy Weissberg ended when he evicted her from the house they shared. This sparked a frenzy in which he began dating women for brief periods of time, some of whom were mere children.

How Iggy Pop’s First Marriage Ended

In 1968, Iggy Pop married his wife, Weissberg. Their wedding was “fun,” according to Ron Asheton, a bandmate from the Stooges. Asheton was his best man at his wedding and a partner in crime in all of his other endeavors. Weissberg was Jewish and the daughter of a wealthy individual who operated a discount retail business. Her parents were unaware of her marriage to Pop, and none of her family members attended. She moved in with Pop following the wedding. He was, at the time, cohabiting with his bandmates.

Pop’s residence with them became a source of contention in his marriage. She wished to sleep during the night. However, Pop liked to party and create a racket. Eventually, the “Godfather of Punk” realized that either his career or his wife had to take a back seat. He refused to keep the house quiet, creating tunes at all hours of the night and whenever he chose. This was the deciding factor for Weissberg. Asheton was also the one who predicted the duration of his marriage—a month. Undeniably, he was correct. Pop told her to leave after two weeks of marriage. And she did, filing for divorce a short time afterward. In court documents, Weissberg alleged that the marriage had not been completed and that he was gay. Every member of the group laughed and even hung the papers on the wall “for ages.”

Iggy Pop’s Post-First Marriage Relationships

After receiving the divorce papers, Pop reverted to his former wild and loose habits. He began dating girls shortly thereafter, carefree. “I had regained my freedom,” the vocalist explained during one of the interviews for Please Kill Me: The Uncensored Oral History of Punk. He began wandering and came across a hamburger establishment frequented by children. He discovered inspiration for the Stooges’ debut record in Betsy, a 14-year-old girl there. Pop developed feelings for her, and no matter how many women he saw on the side, he always returned to her. Even better, the musician met her parents. However, nothing came of that encounter.

In another incident, he was romantically involved with 13-year-old Sable Starr. He was 23 years old at the time. After several years of this insanity, he met his second wife at Suchi Asano. In 1984, they married and divorced in 1998. Pop needed only a year to rediscover love. He met Nina Alu, a flight attendant, in 1999. Their relationship progressed quickly. By 2000, they had cohabited. Eight years later, their wedding occurred, and with it came the awareness that he was fortunate to have met her. Pop never had children in any of his three marriages. However, he does have a child. Eric was born to him and his buddy, Paulette Benson. He did not, however, raise him. Despite the fact that Eric worked for him in the 1980s, they are not said to be close.
